Slow Fashion...

Made to order

This means that when you click that final button and your email pings with your order confirmation, we will begin the process hand making your Hafwen piece.

Why do we do this?

Because by making your order after you’ve placed it, any risk of waste fabric is eliminated and any unused fabric can easily be re-purposed into something new.

How does this help?

Less fabric wasted = A more sustainable, planet friendly fashion industry.

How does this affect you?

This also means that when you click that button and your email pings, you will need to allow for 2-10 working days before your order is dispatched.

Fabric

Sustainable fabric, fastenings & trim

We do our upmost to ensure all fabric, fastenings and trim used in HAFWEN products are sustainable and ethically produced.

What do we mean when we say 'Sustainable'?

When we say sustainable, we mean that the fabrics used in the manufacturing of our products are not harmful to the planet, all fabric used must meet one or all of the following criteria:

  • The fabric carries an organic certification (e.g.OEKO-TEX or GOTS, please follow links for further information on these certifications)
  • The fabric was salvaged from a scrap store or found fabric.
  • The fabric is vintage or has been taken from items purchased at charity shops
  • The fabric is Vegan and meets one of the above criteria.

What do we mean when we say 'Ethical'?

When we say ethical, we mean that the fabrics have been produced in an ethical manor, where garment workers are paid living wages, work in socially supportive environments and feel empowered.

GOTS and some OEKO-Tex standards ensure the ethical standards of the supply chain. While this is the gold standard, these certifications are harder to achieve for smaller fabric mills due to cost.

The fabrics used in the manufacturing of our products must carry the following:

  • Organic certification
  • If organic certification is not possible, a full and transparent documentation of the supply chain is required.

Our Silk ...

We currently stock products made with two different silks:

  • Fine quality GOTS certified Silk, Made in the UK              Not Vegan
  • 100% Organic Bamboo                                                      Vegan                                                              .Grown in FSC Certified Forests (OCIA certification for international standards, NOP for USA standards) Dyed with Oeko-Tex Certified Dyes.

What about Peace Silk?

We have taken the decision not to use Peace Silk at HAFWEN. There are still many ethical, sustainable and logistical issues surrounding the production of Peace Silk.

As advised by PETA

Total Ethics Fashion

Going forward we aim to use up the last of our organic non-vegan silk and will no longer purchase newly made fabrics that are not also vegan. This is in line with our commitment to total ethics fashion.(what is total ethics fashion?)
